Follow Hrath's Journal through the Thundering Steppes, Nektropos Castle, and Varsoon to recover the Fishbone Earring heritage reward.

How to start

Speak with Kerath McMarrin in the Thundering Steppes to begin. You receive Hrath's Journal — a lore journal that updates as you progress. Journal hints are sometimes cryptic; use the steps below for clear directions.

Kerath McMarrin (quest start & turn-in)

Notes & prerequisites

Adventure level 25+ required to be offered this quest.
Someone in your group must have completed The Everling Lockets in Nektropos Castle — killing Lord Everling (Maltus Everling) requires that access quest to have been finished in the instance.
Heroic difficulty — bring a group for Nektropos and Varsoon.

Steps

1. Investigate the sunken ship
Hrath's Journal sends you to a sunken ship in the water near the Shrine of Sirens.
- An enraged octopus spawns when you get close — you do not need to kill it for the quest to update.

2. Kill Lord Everling
Enter Nektropos Castle and defeat Lord Everling (Maltus Everling).
- You only get one attempt at Maltus Everling per instance run — if you fail, he locks the door and you must restart the instance.

3. Kill Hrath T'vol
Find Hrath T'vol in the side room behind the curtain to the left as you enter the Workshop of the Sorcerer.
- Clear the main room first — he charges when you approach the side room and adds can overwhelm you.
- He spawns when you go near the side room and immediately attacks.

4. Kill Captain Krieger
Return to the Thundering Steppes and find Captain Krieger.
- He may not appear hostile until you approach — he will attack once you get close.

5. Return for your reward
Return to Kerath McMarrin to complete the quest and receive the Fishbone Earring.

Complete The Everling Lockets before attempting the Lord Everling step.
Plan for two zone trips to Thundering Steppes (start, sunken ship, Krieger, turn-in), one Nektropos run, and one Varsoon visit.
