Help Hwal Rucksif craft new dwarven work boots by gathering materials across Antonica and adjacent zones, breaking a family curse, and commissioning Minty Frostbeard in the Thundering Steppes.

How to start

Speak with Hwal Rucksif at The Keep of the Ardent Needle in Antonica. Watchman Loxley and Watchman Haggerty guard the keep and will attack low-level Evil-aligned players who approach.

Hwal Rucksif (quest start & turn-in)

Notes & prerequisites

Adventure level 20+ required to receive this quest.
Heroic difficulty — several steps require kills in Blackburrow, Stormhold, and the Thundering Steppes.
The Dwarven Work Boots reward is required for the follow-up quest Reinforcing a Relic.

Steps

1. Harvest iron clusters and severed maple
Harvest 15 iron clusters and 15 severed maple in Antonica. Both node types can be found near Callus Ore and Wind Felled Trees. Must be harvested by the quester.
- If accidentally deleted, you may replace harvested items at the broker and still get credit.
- If you are on A Gathering Obsession, Part II, this step will not update until you have harvested that quest's required items first.

2. Return to Hwal with harvested materials
Return to Hwal Rucksif with the iron clusters and severed maple in your inventory.

3. Collect zone-specific crafting materials
Venture to three dungeons/zones and collect the required items. Updates are group updates, not object interactions.

4. Return to Hwal
Return to Hwal Rucksif with the zone materials.

5. Obtain beer from the Blackburrow Brewery
Return to Blackburrow and obtain beer from The Blackburrow Brewery on Level III. The closest entrance is the secret entrance requiring a short underwater swim.

6. Return to Hwal
Return to Hwal Rucksif with the brewery beer.

7. Release Hwal's grandfather from the curse
Travel to The Bells of Vhalen and click the manhole cover on the tower floor to enter Garanel's Resting Place. Speak with the ghost of Garanel Rucksif to release him from the family curse.

8. Return to Hwal
Return to Hwal Rucksif after freeing his grandfather.

9. Gather leather and a steel bar
Obtain leather from a mature antelope and a steel bar from a Firerock scout in the Thundering Steppes.
- Monsters at antelope locations placeholder for each other — keep clearing the area until a mature antelope spawns.
- If you find a group of 3–4 mature antelope with young, kill the mature ones and run off the rest for faster respawns.

10. Deliver supplies to Minty Frostbeard
Take the supplies to Minty Frostbeard in The Village of Thundermist.

11. Retrieve the finished boots
Return to Minty Frostbeard one Norrathian day later (72 minutes real-time) to retrieve the boots.
- Even after a Norrathian day expires, you may need to rezone or relog for Minty to update her quest status.

12. Return for your reward
Return to Hwal Rucksif. He takes the new boots and gives you his old Dwarven Work Boots as the heritage reward.

Tips

Use the secret Blackburrow entrance for the fastest route to the brewery on Level III.
Plan a 72-minute real-time wait at Minty Frostbeard — use the time for other Thundering Steppes tasks.
Keep the Dwarven Work Boots — they are needed for Reinforcing a Relic.
Evil-aligned low-level characters should approach the Keep of the Ardent Needle carefully due to the watchmen.
